Conforming to Standards

The World Wide Web Consortium is an organization devoted to creating and refining a standard way in which code is rendered by end users' browsers. Developing sites with these standards in mind allows for long term sustainability of designs and websites in general. Standards based coding also provides some assurance that no matter what browser your customer or employee is using the website will appear the same, and the experience will be consistent for all users.

Constant Testing

Even though these standards exist, not every browser respects them or deals with them in the same way. So even with standards based coding, some websites will look different in Microsoft's Internet Explorer compared to Mozilla Firefox. So rigourous testing, and compensating within the standard has to be done, so no matter what computer environment your customer is on, your website will look right.
